Sempervivum calcareum 'Sir William Lawrence', a captivating cultivar of the Common Houseleek, is a hardy and eye-catching succulent that adds a touch of elegance to any rock garden, container, or green roof. It is beloved for its tightly-packed rosettes of fleshy leaves that boast a stunning blend of green and rosy-red hues.

Appearance:

  • Leaves: Thick, succulent leaves arranged in symmetrical rosettes. The leaves showcase a unique coloration, with a green base that gradually transitions to a vibrant rosy-red towards the tips, creating a captivating ombré effect. The leaves are also adorned with fine, white hairs, adding a delicate, textured touch.

  • Size: Each individual rosette typically grows to about 3-5 inches in diameter. However, the plant as a whole can spread significantly as it produces numerous offsets, or "chicks," creating a mat-like groundcover.

Growth Habits and Care:

  • Sunlight: Thrives in full sun to partial shade. Ample sunlight exposure intensifies the rosy-red coloration of the leaves.

  • Soil: Prefers well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix. It can even grow in rocky or gravelly soil.

  • Watering: Drought-tolerant once established; water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly in winter.

  • Temperature: Highly cold-hardy, tolerating temperatures well below freezing.

  • Maintenance: Minimal maintenance required.

Additional Information:

  • Sempervivum calcareum 'Sir William Lawrence' is a symbol of resilience and longevity.

  • The leaves are edible and have a slightly sour taste.

  • It is a popular choice for green roofs due to its ability to thrive in harsh conditions and its low maintenance needs.

The succulent plant housed in the black pot comes in a 130mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
