Sedum 'Jaspa', also known as Jelly Bean Plant, is a charming succulent known for its unique foliage and vibrant colors. This low-growing, spreading succulent is a hybrid variety believed to have originated in Australia.
Key Characteristics:
- Jelly Bean-Shaped Leaves: The most distinctive feature is its plump, cylindrical leaves that resemble jelly beans. These leaves are typically a soft grey-green color, but they develop striking red tips when exposed to ample sunlight.
- Spreading Growth Habit: 'Jaspa' has a spreading growth habit, forming dense mats of foliage. This makes it an excellent choice for groundcovers, rock gardens, or cascading over the edges of containers.
- Yellow Star-Shaped Flowers: In spring, this sedum produces clusters of small, star-shaped yellow flowers that add a cheerful touch of contrast to the foliage.
- Drought Tolerance: Like other sedums, 'Jaspa' is incredibly drought-tolerant, making it well-suited for arid climates and xeriscaping.
Care Tips:
- Light: Plant in full sun to partial shade. Full sun will intensify the red coloration of the leaf tips.
- Watering: Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
- Soil: Plant in well-draining soil, such as a sandy or gravelly mix specifically formulated for succulents.
- Temperature: Tolerates a wide range of temperatures, from hot summers to mild frosts.
