Mirabilis jalapa – Caudex-Forming Curiosity with Tropical Blooms
Uncover a botanical surprise with Mirabilis jalapa, a unique and fast-growing plant prized not just for its vibrant, fragrant flowers—but also for its caudex-forming habit. Commonly known as the Four O’Clock Plant, this species develops a swollen, woody base over time, making it an unexpected favorite among caudiciform collectors and bonsai growers.
This unusual tuberous plant produces lush green foliage and a continuous display of pink, yellow, white, or striped trumpet-shaped flowers—often with multiple colors blooming on the same plant! Flowers open in the late afternoon, filling the air with fragrance, and close by morning.
