Kalanchoe tomentosa, commonly known as "Panda Plant" or "Chocolate Soldier," is a popular and charming succulent belonging to the Kalanchoe genus, which is part of the Crassulaceae family. It is native to Madagascar.
Leaves/Growing:
- Kalanchoe tomentosa forms compact, rosette-like clusters of thick, fleshy leaves.
- The rosettes are usually small to medium-sized, ranging from a few inches to about 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter.
- Kalanchoe tomentosa has a moderate growth rate and tends to remain relatively compact.
- It can grow to several feet but in a home environment will only reach about 30 to 60cm.
Cultural Requirements:
- Light: Flourishes in bright, indirect sunlight. Protect from intense midday sun to prevent leaf burn, especially in warmer climates.
- Soil: Requires well-draining succulent or cactus mix.
- It prefers well-draining soil.
Special Features :
- Kalanchoe tomentosa reaches maturity and favorable conditions, it can produce tall, slender flower stalks with clusters of small, tubular, and bell-shaped flowers.
- Kalanchoe tomentosa is generally easy to care for.
- This one can be referred to as Pussy ears or Panda Plant.
- A slow growing succulent with fine white hairs covering leaves which are a bluish grey color.
- Originating in Madagascar Grows in full sun or lightly shaded areas.
- Great for pots or rockeries.
