Introducing the striking and architectural Euphorbia trigona 'Purpurea', a captivating succulent renowned for its deep burgundy to purplish-red stems and bold, upright form. This cultivar of the African Milk Tree (Euphorbia trigona) adds a dramatic touch to any indoor or outdoor space with its vibrant coloration and distinctive three-sided stems. Unlike true cacti, Euphorbias produce a milky sap (latex) when damaged. 'Purpurea' is a relatively fast-growing and low-maintenance plant that makes a stunning statement.
Characteristics:
-
Dramatic Purple-Red Stems: The most striking feature is its upright, fleshy, three-sided stems that display a rich burgundy to purplish-red hue. The intensity of the color can vary depending on light exposure, often deepening in bright light.
-
Upright and Columnar Growth: It grows tall and upright, typically reaching several feet in height indoors, creating a strong vertical element.
-
Small Green Leaves: Along the ridges of the stems, it produces small, oval, green leaves that are often short-lived and may drop off, especially during drier periods or in less humid conditions. The stems are the primary photosynthetic organs.
-
Thorny Ridges: The ridges of the stems are lined with short, dark spines (modified leaves), adding to its architectural texture.
-
Relatively Fast Growth: Compared to many succulents, Euphorbia trigona is a relatively fast grower, especially during its active growing season.
- Low Maintenance: Once established, it is a fairly easy-to-care-for plant.
The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 190mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
