Euphorbia tithymaloides, commonly known as Devil’s Backbone or Zig-Zag Plant, is a fascinating succulent shrub known for its unusual serpentine, zig-zagging stems. The fleshy green stems are lined with small, lance-shaped leaves that sometimes develop reddish or pink tinges at the edges in bright light or cooler temperatures.
During the warmer months, this plant may surprise you with small, slipper-shaped red or pinkish flowers, giving it the nickname Redbird Cactus, although it's not a true cactus. Its sculptural form and tolerance to dry conditions make it a popular choice for succulent collections, indoor decor, or as a standout feature in drought-tolerant gardens.
Euphorbia tithymaloides is a low-maintenance plant but should be handled with care as it contains a milky sap that can be irritating to skin and eyes.
