Echeveria ‘Pegasus’ is a beautiful rosette-forming succulent with soft greyish-blue foliage and a neat, compact shape. This Calara hybrid is a lovely choice for collectors who enjoy unusual Echeverias with subtle colouring rather than bright, intense tones.

Its fleshy leaves grow closely together in a spiral, forming a tidy rosette. Depending on light, temperature and growing conditions, the foliage can take on slightly different shades, making each plant a little different.

With its soft colouring and structured growth, ‘Pegasus’ works particularly well in decorative pots, succulent arrangements, rockeries and collection displays.

What Makes Echeveria ‘Pegasus’ Special?

Soft Grey-Blue Foliage

The main attraction is its muted greyish-blue leaves. The soft colour gives the plant a calm appearance and makes an interesting contrast against greener or darker succulents.

A natural powdery coating may also be present on the leaves, giving the plant a slightly frosted appearance.

Compact Rosette

The fleshy leaves grow in a close spiral, creating the classic Echeveria rosette. The leaves are elongated with gently pointed to rounded tips.

Good light helps the plant maintain its shape rather than becoming stretched.

A Calara Hybrid

‘Pegasus’ is described as a Calara hybrid, making it an interesting addition for collectors who enjoy hybrid Echeverias and less common rosette forms.

Growing Echeveria ‘Pegasus’ in Australia

Light

Bright light is important for healthy growth. Morning sun is particularly suitable, while some protection from harsh afternoon sun can be useful during very hot Australian summers.

A plant kept in too little light may become elongated as it searches for more sunlight.

Watering

Allow the soil to dry completely before watering again. When watering, soak the soil thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away.

Avoid allowing water to remain trapped in the centre of the rosette.

Soil

Use a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix. A pot with drainage holes is essential.

If your soil holds water for a long time, add extra grit, pumice or perlite to improve drainage.

Temperature

Echeveria ‘Pegasus’ prefers warm, dry conditions. Protect it from frost and prolonged exposure to cold, wet weather.

Indoor Growing

It can be grown indoors if it receives plenty of natural light. A bright window with suitable morning sunlight is generally better than a dim indoor position.

Where to Grow It

Its compact form makes ‘Pegasus’ suitable for:

  • Decorative pots
  • Succulent collections
  • Rockeries
  • Mixed succulent arrangements
  • Patio displays
  • Balcony gardens
  • Bright indoor areas
  • Collector plant displays

Its muted grey-blue colour also works particularly well alongside pink, purple, silver and green succulents.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why is my Echeveria ‘Pegasus’ more green than blue?

Leaf colour can change with light, temperature and growing conditions. Plants grown in different environments may show noticeably different shades.

2. Can Echeveria ‘Pegasus’ handle Australian summer sun?

It can enjoy bright light and morning sun, but very strong afternoon sun during extreme heat can cause leaf damage. Some afternoon protection may be useful in hotter areas.

3. How do I stop ‘Pegasus’ from becoming tall and stretched?

Give it stronger light. Stretching, known as etiolation, usually happens when an Echeveria does not receive enough light.

4. Does the grey-blue coating on the leaves need to be cleaned?

No. The powdery coating is natural and contributes to the plant's colour and appearance. Avoid rubbing the leaves because the coating can be removed.

5. Can I grow Echeveria ‘Pegasus’ with other succulents?

Yes. Its soft grey-blue colouring works especially well with Echeverias, Graptoverias, Graptopetalums and other succulents with contrasting colours and forms.
