Dorstenia Foetida

Dorstenia foetida, commonly known as stinkleaf, is an intriguing and distinctive plant species belonging to the Moraceae family. It is native to various regions in Africa, including Madagascar and South Africa. Dorstenia foetida is renowned for its unusual appearance and its characteristic pungent odor, which gives it its common name.

The stinkleaf plant has a unique growth habit, featuring a thick, gnarled stem that gives rise to fleshy, round to oval-shaped leaves. The leaves are typically dark green, smooth, and glossy, with a wrinkled or textured surface.The inflorescence is composed of modified leaves that surround the flowers, creating a protective enclosure. The flowers themselves are typically greenish-yellow or greenish-white in color.

Dorstenia foetida is adapted to arid and semi-arid environments and can tolerate a range of conditions. It prefers well-draining soil and requires moderate sunlight to thrive. The plant has a dormant period during which it sheds its leaves, typically occurring during the dry season.
