Cissus Tuberosa

1. Growth Habit:

   • Cissus tuberosa is a caudiciform plant, which means it has a thick, round, and succulent base called a caudex.
   • The caudex can grow up to 25 cm in diameter and is covered with fleshy, greyish-green joints.
   • Long, fast-growing vine-like stems emerge from the caudex, producing aerial roots and spreading over several meters.
   • These vines also have typical tendrils that allow the plant to attach to other vegetation as it grows.

2. Leaves:

   • The annual vines bear deeply cut, palmate leaves at the nodes.
   • These leaves are green and contribute to the plant’s lush appearance.

3. Flowers:

   • Cissus tuberosa produces small greenish flowers.
   • After flowering, it may form small clusters of fruits.

4. Habitat and Origin:

   • It prefers rocky outcrops, where its sprawling vines cover rocks and nearby vegetation.
   • During dry periods, the annual vines die back, leaving behind the massive caudex.
