The Pincushion Cactus Surculosa, scientifically known as Mammillaria surculosa, is a delightful and visually appealing cactus native to Mexico. It is admired for its unique clustering habit, dense covering of spines, and charming pink flowers.
Appearance
- Shape and Size: The Pincushion Cactus Surculosa forms small, cylindrical or globular stems that grow in dense clusters, resembling a pincushion or a collection of conjoined balls. Each stem typically reaches a height of up to 2 inches (5 cm) and a diameter of 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm).
- Spines: The stems are covered in numerous white, radial spines and a few longer, darker central spines, creating a beautiful contrast.
- Flowers: In the spring and summer months, it produces a ring of small, funnel-shaped, bright pink flowers around the top of each stem.
Growth Habits and Care:
- Sunlight: Enjoys plenty of sunlight but can tolerate some light shade, especially during hot summer afternoons.
- Soil: Requires well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix.
- Watering: Water moderately during the growing season (spring and summer), allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.
Additional Information:
- The Pincushion Cactus Surculosa is a relatively slow-growing cactus, making it a good choice for container gardening.
- Its clustering habit and bright pink flowers make it an attractive addition to any cactus or succulent collection.
The succulent plant housed in the red pot comes in a 100mm diameter container. While the image provides a representative depiction of what you will receive, but may vary slightly because no two succulents are the same.
