The Pincushion Cactus Geminispina (Mammillaria geminispina) is a delightful and visually appealing cactus native to central Mexico. It is admired for its cylindrical, clustering stems, dense covering of white spines, and charming pink flowers.
Appearance:
- Shape and Size: The Pincushion Cactus Geminispina forms cylindrical stems that can grow both solitary and in clusters, creating a dense, cushion-like appearance as the plant matures. It typically reaches a height of up to 10 inches (25 cm) and can spread up to 20 inches (50 cm) wide.
- Spines: The stems are covered in white down and numerous white spines. The central spines are typically longer and darker than the radial spines, creating a beautiful contrast.
- Flowers: In the summer and autumn, it produces a ring of attractive, carmine-pink flowers around the top of each stem.
Growth Habits and Care:
- Sunlight: Enjoys plenty of sunlight but can tolerate some light shade, especially during hot summer afternoons.
- Soil: Requires well-draining soil, such as a cactus or succulent mix.
- Watering: Water moderately during the growing season (spring and summer), allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.
Additional Information:
- The Pincushion Cactus Geminispina is a relatively easy-to-care-for cactus, making it a good choice for beginners.
- Its clustering habit and beautiful pink flowers make it an attractive addition to any cactus or succulent collection.
