Aloe barberae, formerly known as Aloe bainesii, is the largest of all Aloe species and is renowned for its impressive tree-like form, capable of reaching up to 10 meters in height in ideal conditions. Native to South Africa, this architectural succulent features thick, upright trunks topped with dense clusters of gracefully arching, dark green leaves arranged in rosettes.
As it matures, Aloe barberae develops a dramatic, sculptural silhouette, making it a favourite feature plant in large xeriscape gardens, tropical landscapes, and succulent displays. In late winter to early spring, it produces tubular, pinkish-orange flowers that attract nectar-feeding birds and pollinators.
Despite its size, Aloe barberae is relatively easy to grow, provided it has well-drained soil, ample sunlight, and space to spread its canopy.
