Agave Barbed Wire, also known as Agave desmettiana 'Variegata', is a cultivar of the Agave desmettiana plant, a succulent species native to Mexico. This cultivar is named after its variegated leaves that have yellow stripes along the margins and resemble barbed wire.
Leaves:
- The leaves of Agave Barbed Wire are fleshy, growing up to 90 cm in length and 15 cm in width.
- They are a blue-green color with yellow stripes along the edges of the leaves, giving them a variegated appearance.
- The leaves grow in a rosette formation and have sharp spines along the margins.
Cultural Requirements:
- This cultivar prefers well-drained soil and full to partial sun exposure.
- It is a relatively hardy plant, tolerant of drought and moderate cold temperatures.
Special Features:
- When mature, it produces a tall flower stalk that can reach up to 5 meters in height, bearing yellow-green flowers in the summer months.
