Add a touch of fiery beauty to your succulent collection with Pachypodium baronii, known for its vibrant red flowers. This unique plant features a stout, silvery-grey trunk adorned with sharp spines and topped with a crown of striking, crimson to scarlet blooms. Its distinctive appearance makes it a highly sought-after specimen.

Characteristics:

  • Flower Color: Vibrant red (crimson to scarlet).
  • Trunk: Stout, silvery-grey, often globose or bottle-shaped.
  • Spines: Sharp, arranged in pairs or triplets along the trunk.
  • Leaves: Small, deciduous, typically appearing during the growing season.
  • Growth Habit: Upright, branching with age.
  • Unique Feature: Stunning red flowers, stout trunk.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Requires bright, indirect to direct sunlight for optimal growth and flowering. Provide ample light, especially during the growing season.
  • Soil: Needs well-draining succulent or cactus mix. Ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot.
  • Water: Water sparingly during the active growing season (spring and summer), allowing the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings. Reduce watering significantly or stop entirely during the dormant winter months.
  • Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures during the growing season. Protect from frost and temperatures below 50°F (10°C) in winter.
  • Humidity: Tolerates low to moderate humidity.
  • Fertilizing: Fertilize lightly during the growing season with a balanced, diluted succulent fertilizer once or twice. Avoid fertilizing during dormancy.
  • Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its container, using a well-draining mix.
  • Dormancy: Pachypodium baronii naturally goes dormant in the cooler months, losing its leaves. This is a normal process, and watering should be significantly reduced or stopped during this time.
