Hildewintera colademononis, also known as Monkey’s Tail Cactus, is a unique and eye-catching trailing cactus known for its long, cascading stems covered in soft, white, hair-like spines. Native to Bolivia, this epiphytic cactus produces bright green stems that can grow over a metre in length, resembling a monkey’s tail—hence its name. In spring or summer, it may produce stunning large red to magenta flowers, making it both a conversation piece and a collector’s treasure.

Care Tips:

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light or filtered sun. Can tolerate some direct sun, but avoid harsh afternoon exposure.

Watering: Water thoroughly when soil is dry. Reduce watering during winter dormancy. Avoid water sitting at the base of stems.

Soil: Use a very well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Add perlite or pumice for extra aeration.

Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions. Minimum temperature: 5°C. Protect from frost.

Humidity: Prefers dry air; does not require high humidity.

Fertilizer: Feed during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted cactus fertilizer once a month.

Propagation: Easily propagated from stem cuttings. Allow cuttings to callous before planting.
